Agatsuma Gorge Trail

Text and images: Massao Uwai

The Agatsuma Gorge Trail is a little-publicized trail located in Naganohara Machi, near the Yamba Dam. Like all trails, it offers several access options. We opted to leave the car at the Junisawa Parking lot where a trail begins and we continue along the Agatsuma River to the dam.

It's practically a walk to the sound of running water and a lot of green. At several points there are belvederes strategically placed for a good view of the gorge, which provides beautiful photos.

The contrast between the green of the plants, the rocks and the color of the water, described here as space blue (is it sky blue?) is a show in itself. The total route of the trail is approximately 7 km, which largely borders the asphalt.

Being in this region, it is worth taking a tour package with the amphibious bus that takes passengers on a tour of the region's tourist attractions by land and also by the waters of the Yamba dam. The amphibious bus operations had been in tests since June 2020 and were inaugurated in April of this year.
