A job interview in Japan, in addition to being done with extreme formality, is a ritual taken very seriously by companies.

Unlike Brazil, the interview for a job vacancy in Japan is carried out in an extremely formal way. As already mentioned in an article here in the Jobs@Baitos section, everything starts at home with looking after your appearance, about what to wear on the occasion. Dthis time, we're going to cover how this ′′ ritual ′′ is step by step with tips.

Job interview: step by step

Step 1: Before entering the interview room, the door will likely be closed. It is the moment when the exhausting ceremonial begins. Knock three times. Wait for authorization to enter. Only then, open the door, enter and turn around to close it silently.

Step 2: Once inside the interview room, say “excuse me”, bow in greeting and walk to the left side of the chair.

Step 3: Introduce yourself. Say your name and say you came for the interview. Bow down again. Wait to be told that you can sit down.

Step 4: Already seated, the man should keep his palms resting on each of his knees. The woman must put her legs together, without crossing them, keeping one hand over the other in her lap. Both men and women should keep their spines straight. Never use the backrest of the chair. Only then does the interview begin.

Step 5: After all the questioning by recruiters, say thank you for the opportunity you were given to be interviewed. Get up, put the chair in the starting position. Bow one last time, excuse yourself to leave. Walk towards the door and close it quietly.

Tips

Every time you bow to greet yourself, try to use your hips with your spine straight. Never just tilt your head. The 30-degree tilt is ideal when performing. The 45-degree tilt is suitable for parting times.

Still, it never hurts to remember that, in Japan, being late for any occasion is a tremendous lack of respect. Try to arrive half an hour earlier at the interview location, which will give you enough time to remember all the steps and tips and start your future job on the right foot.
