Mazda RX-9 may stop being a dream and finally hit the streets

Owner of a slice of the world automobile market that includes true fans, as well as sympathizers, Mazda continues to be mysterious about the launch of its RX 9 model. RX 2015. Very advanced for its time, its aerodynamic lines were and still are surprising. Specialized magazines believed that 9 would be the year, as the company celebrates its 2020th anniversary. A brief visit to her website makes no mention of the fact. Another concrete fact was, in 2020, the consolidation of a partnership with Polyphony Digital, which develops software for Sony Computer Entertainment, known for its great success: FIA Gran Turismo Sport for the Play Station. This year, will the RX 9 only be on the virtual tracks?

The RX-VISION is a concept car with hints of what the new Mazda RX-9 will look like

Why is Mazda so mysterious?
The RX-VISION concept features a front- and rear-wheel drive sports car powered by the new generation SKYACTIV-R rotary engine. It is a 1.6 liter block – divided between two 800cc rotors each – turbocompressor and HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) technology from the new era of diesel blocks. The set allows to reach the power of 400hp.
Lighter materials, better weight distribution – less than 1300 kg – and dual-clutch transmission are some of the features that will surpass its predecessors.
All of this would be leveraged into the RX 9, making it more efficient and cleaner.

Launch difficulty may be linked to diesel engine

However, many consider diesel engines to be outdated.
Faced with this situation, Mazda does not rule out the possibility of electric models (hybrids, PHEV, mild hybrid) or even hydrogen-powered models for the RX 9.
Recently, the Japanese car company introduced its first popular battery-only model, the MX-30. It is a viable economic and environmental bet for the demanding European market that has announced restrictions on vehicles powered by gasoline and diesel.
The answer to the question “why is Mazda so mysterious?”, would be that the Japanese automaker does not yet have a formula that adds the RX 9 to the various types of engines. In the imagination of traditionalists, the ideal would be a diesel that aligns with the impetuosity of the sports car. But, the launch could fail as a portion of the public believes that clean energy engines are the future.
At least, within the Japanese company, there is a consensus on the issue: rotary motors powered by batteries make the set more compact and lighter, reducing noise, vibration and friction levels. This improves efficiency and lowers costs.
